Address assigning tool

For technicians!

The tool “Serial.exe” is used to assign the address of any addressable unit in any Pannoramic scanner.

In principle, the address of the stepper motors is defined with this program, because often three or more stepper motors of the same type exist; and the motors should never have the same address.

The address should be checked, modified or actualized if:

·    Stepper motor exchange of any unit was done

·    Firmware upgrade of the stepper motor was done

·    Address of any addressable unit exists twice

·    Address of the unit is lost

The addresses are used by the scan program and the service program to select the unit; these addresses are programmed into the specified unit and can be changed via the tool “Serial.exe” only. It is important, that none of these addresses should exist twice inside of one Pannoramic scanner, otherwise command and status mismatch occurs.

If data transfer is in progress, all addressable units listen to the address of the data stream. If the address of the unit is identical with the address of the data stream, the addressed unit is found and this receives the information.

To make the motor selectable for information and control data, each motor, used in the Pannoramic scanner got an address. Each communication pattern contains this address also. This way, only the addressed motor will receive the information stream, where the motor address and the data pattern address are identical. Status and sensor information is transferred by using the same principle.

Modify the address of a unit

1.      Switch off the power supply of the scanner.

2.      Disconnect all stepper motor control cables from the stepper motor electronics and the control cables of addressable units; except the cable of the motor or unit, that address should be modified.

3.      Switch on the power supply of the scanner.

4.      Start the program “Serial.exe.

<Pannoramic_Scanners>… website\Descriptions\Files_\3DH\Serial.exe

·       It’s a good idea to disconnect all stepper motors and addressable units that are should not be affected during the actual unit address modification operation; even if the address exists twice.

5.       Select the actual address of the stepper motor to be changed in the menu “Old”; If the Address number of the stepper motor to be updated is unknown, select its new number in the field “Old” also.

6.      In the menu “New” select the number of the motor address used in the scanner; see also above “The addresses”.

8.      Press “Change ID”.

9.      If the settings are correct, press “Yes”.

10. Leave the program with “OK” and click “Exit”

.

·       Switch off the power supply, connect the cables to the previously disconnected motors and switch on the power supply.

·       Check the correct function of all motors with the help of the service program.

·       If all motors working correctly the procedure is finished.
