For technicians

Because the number of files to create the local (offline) manual increased drastically in the last year, the manual download procedure requires many attention for downloading and expansion all the files.

Because the bandwidth of the internet is embarrassing small in some regions, and the download of the manual would therefore require much attention over hours, assistant tools are developed.

The DL_Assistant (Download Assistant) is used to download the entire manual or truncated versions of it.

The UD_Assistant (Update Assistant) loads down all the files, required for the update procedure, the new or modified chapters are named in the Version update history.

To minimize mistakes, the

was created.

By increasing the number of the sfx-exe-files in the download file pool

• redundant download is reduced.
• allows short update procedures with the update manager.

Carefully collection of the manual files into the sfx-exe-files

• allows a modular manual structure and
• allows truncated manual versions, downloaded with the download assistant.

Features

• Nearly autonomic download and expand of the entire manual.
• The manual may be the full version or truncated version, where not required descriptions may be left out.
• Fastest availability of the manual while highest download speed and security.
• Download divided into manual parts and video parts to save download time.
• Not required parts of the manual may be left out from the download procedure, so a truncated manual version can be created.
• The download assistant is very helpful if the download procedure takes a long time as result of a small bandwidth.

The handling of the manual's download files may be done in three ways:

• Download of a couple of files with the download assistant (DL_Assistant)
• Download of a couple of files with the update assistant (UD_Assistant)
• Download and expand of 1 or more single files as described under Create a local version

Steps of the version update procedure

Load down the file DL_Assistant.exe

Switch to the directory "<drive>:\pssm" or to the directory, where the actual service manual is found.

Load down the file "DL_Assistant.exe" into the appropriate folder.

Run the sfx exe-file "DL_Assistant.exe"

Open the folder DL_Assistant you will find the UD_Assistant with date inside.

Run the file UD_Assistant.bat.

If the batch finished, restart the manual.

Important Please clear the cache content of your browser!

Remark

The UD_Assistant updates always the full version of the manual..

If the technician uses a truncated version, may be there are not required files included.

If the UD_Assistant contains only files for scanners that are excluded by the truncated version, the update may be left out.

Steps of the download procedure

Make the directory "pssm" on the desired drive.

Load down the file DL_Assistant.exe

In the directory download select the file "DL_Assistant.exe" and save it into the directory "pssm".

• If the download folder is not defined to "pssm", please copy or move the file from the download folder into "pssm"!

Run the file DL_Assistant.exe

• Expand so the batch-file and additional files.

• If the shown path is correct, press "Extract".
• If not, the path can be selected by pressing

Change into the directory

Enter the directory "DL_Assistant"

Run the file MANUAL_all.bat

• The directories "file" and "exe" are required for the download procedure.

For differences in the DL Assistant files

"Download of truncated versions"

• The content of the folder may be changed any time

The download procedure of all files with a number in the first character position is started.

Required time was measured from 5minutes until over 1hour; depending on the bandwidth available.

• The status of the download file parts is reported by the download program "aria2c.exe"

Now you have time for a break, you need to wait until the procedure is finished.

• The progress of the download procedure is reported by the "Manual.bat"

• Finished download reported by the download program "aria2c.exe"

Expand of the self extracting archives (SFX-archives)

If you see this message, the expand procedure is finished, start the manual and check the functionality.

Final construction of the directory "pssm" is shown after finishing and expanding of all files.

Directory "download" is empty, because the files are moved to directory "expand"

Downloaded files are collected in the folder "expand"

• The content of the folder may be changed any time

Select not required files for deleting.

• Delete not required files

• The content of the folder may be changed any time

The shown content is true for the download of the full version.

If one of the shortened versions is downloaded, files are left out from the sequence.

Download process with errors

It may happen, that the download process of a file can not be finished, an error may occur.

There are several ways to handle the errors:

1. Stop (abort) the batch program "Manual.bat", easily click the button "Exit"

Start "Manual.bat" again; about 10s to 1min later.

2. Run the file "Manual.bat" until the end and load down the unsuccessfully downloaded files manually.

Load down the file "expand_all.bat" and store it in the folder "expand".

Run the file expand.bat.

Construction of "expand_all.bat"

The bat-file can be used to expand all the files of the manual.

If a file does not exist, the message "File not found" will be issued.

Already existing files in the destination directory will be overwritten, without notice.

This way you may be sure, that all downloaded files are expanded also and the downloaded version exists as manual.

• Load the file "expand.bat" into the directory, where the manual exe-files are downloaded and run it.

• The manual is created in the same directory where "expand.bat" is located.
• If required, you may move the directories "website" and "control" as well as the file "index.htm" to the desired folder.
• Files, no longer required, may be deleted!

Download of truncated versions

To save download time and storage capacity, the technician may exclude scanner descriptions from the download process by using a different download assistant.

Often it happens that the scanner spectrum, serviced by the technician does not include all the scanners, delivered by 3DHISTECH.

In such cases, the technician may exclude not required scanner descriptions from the download process as shown.

The following table shows the scanner descriptions, downloaded by the download assistant version.

In the file name part after MANUAL the excluded scanner types are listed; except "all" (no scanner is excluded) and "P250" (only this scanner is included).

The meaning of the abbreviations is shown in the Legend on the end of the table.

• If a short version was downloaded and installed, the inscription "truncated" is shown below the inscription "Service Manual"
• The available scanner descriptions are shown if the type menu is opened.

Remark Chapter links to not implemented chapters as a result of a truncated version can not be linked and therefore are shown as "broken links"

• The content of the directory may be changed any time

Download sequence

1. Create the download and final directory; e.g. O:\pssm_
• If the download procedure is finished, and the manual works well, the directory may be renamed.

2. In the browser settings set the download folder in Options/General/Files and Applications/Downloads/Save files to "O:\pssm_" (true for Firefox)

· All the following downloaded files will be stored here!

3. load down the file "DL_Assistant_" https://www.3dhistech.com/data/pssm/DL/DL_Assistant_2019_04_16.exe; Save the file

4. Start the file in the directory O:\pssm_\DL_Assistant_2019_07_18.exe.

• Some virus protector software will check this file, it may take some minutes. If possible, select the option to force running the file or switch off the protector software for some minutes.

5. Open the directory "DL_Assistant_2019_07_18"

6. Start the desired .bat-file; see above "Download of truncated versions"

· Wait, until the download and expand procedure of the entire manual is finished

7. Content of directory "pssm_" after download finished

• The download time depends mainly on the internet download speed; it may take from 15min or less until more hours.

8. Delete the directories marked as red.

9. Final content of the directory "pssm_"

10. Start the file "index.htm"

11. Set the download folder to its original path; defined under point "2"
