Dongles

·      This description is true until the software version 1.14; based on the operating system Windows XP®

The dongle is a hardware unit, connected to any specified port of the computer to protect software for unauthorized use. It contains mostly a programmable logic array or a flash memory area with a protecting data pattern. This data pattern is compared with the pattern in the software and often analyzed by a mathematical algorithm or function also. If the result does not produce an error, the software is ready for use, otherwise the software will not start and an error message occurs or dongle protected parts of the software can not be used.

Barcode dongles

The Matrox barcode dongle used for barcode reading exists in two versions; the parallel port Matrox barcode dongle (until MIL 8.0) and the USB port Matrox barcode dongle. Because the integration of the parallel port on newer PC mother boards is discontinued, the USB dongle for barcode reading is delivered. For barcode reading only one dongle is needed, the parallel port dongle or the USB port dongle. The procedures described below installs the Matrox Imaging Library for barcode reading and detecting only, which is dongle bound. If the HITACHI camera should be installed also, please refer to the file “Matrox Imaging Library Installation Guide.doc” on the install CD, delivered with the Pannoramic microscope.

Important

In any cases, the Matrox imaging library MIL 8.0 or the version MIL 9.0 have to be installed first, before the scanner software “SlideScanner.exe” can be installed.

Is the scanner software already installed before the Matrox imaging library, the SlideScanner software have to be removed and installed again after the appropriate version of the Matrox imaging library was installed correctly; otherwise barcode reading will not work!

·    In the same way you can change the Matrox imaging library from the version MIL 8.0 to the version MIL 9.0 (If the software version 1.14.xx should be installed), but you need a new dongle, for the version MIL 9.0!

Upgrade the Matrox imaging library from MIL 8.0 to MIL 9.0

·    Remove the slide scanner program

·    Remove the Matrox imaging library MIL 8.0

·    Install the Matrox imaging library MIL 9.0

·    Install the slide scanner program version 1.14 or higher

                   Matrox imaging library MIL 8.0

·    This barcode reading software is used for any scanners with software before the SlideScanner version 1.14.xx.

·    The barcode dongle, issued with the version “MIL8.0” will not work with the version “MIL9.0”!!

Check or set the file “MicroscopeConfiguration.ini” for the following entries:

[Microscope]

BarcodeReaderType=MS904

Install the driver for the Matrox barcode reader (barcode dongle bound)

Connect the USB port barcode dongle or the parallel port barcode dongle. If the parallel port barcode dongle is used, please disconnect any cable from the parallel port dongle until the installation is finished. During barcode installation only the parallel port barcode dongle should be connected to the IEEE1284 port.
